Milling Ryecorn

Milling ryecorn is grown as a specialty high value grain for the New Zealand Flour Milling industry for human consumption in specialty breads and other baked products. Farmers can only plant in the autumn/winter and it must not be sown after July.  Ryecorn is very prone to pre-harvest sprouting compared with wheat so it must be given priority over all other cereals at harvest.

Like all crops, planning is essential prior to planting. Factors such as paddock selection, rotation, markets all need to be considered. For more information on the only milling industry recommended cultivar cv Amilo.
